Throughout history, there are records of the trials of confessed or accused werewolves. They were hunted, questioned, and executed in much the same way witches were, because witches were often accused of being lycanthropes. These “werewolf trials” give us a historical glimpse at rampant human belief in werewolves, and up to 30,000 accused were executed across Europe as a result.

France experienced several dozen werewolf witch trials around the end of the 16th century. In many of the cases, such as that of the Gandillon Family, the infamous "Werewolf of Châlons" and Jacques Roulet of Angers, the accused were also accused of murder and cannibalism. One of the most well-known of the werewolf witch trials of France was that of Gilles Garnier of Dole in 1573.

On this episode, Dr. Dennis Carroll joins Jessica to discuss the Loup Garou/Rougarou and the historical Werewolf Witch Trials.
