Shawn Stines Murder Case - Pretrial Hearing and Bodycam Update

Mickey Stines, the Sheriff of Letcher County, Kentucky walked into the Letcher County Courthouse and killed Judge Kevin Mullins in his chambers on September 19, 2024.

The murder followed Stines entering Mullins’ office and told staff that he wanted to talk to the judge alone. The two men then entered the judge’s chambers and closed the door. The two men could be heard briefly arguing when shots rang out. Mullins then exited the chambers with his hands up and surrendered to officers. Kentucky State Police said Stines has been charged with murder of a public official and potentially faces the death penalty.

While we still don't know a motive, revelations including a bodycam of Stines' arrest have been revealed as well as allegations that Judge Mullins himself was involved in the sextortion ring that was committed by various court deputies at the courthouse.
