Many Americans Disappointed in TIKTOK Ban
7 months ago

In April 2024, the U.S. Congress passed the "Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act," which required ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok to divest its U.S. operations by January 19, 2025, or face a ban. National security fears that the Chinese government could access user data or manipulate content. TikTok argued that the ban infringed on First Amendment rights, but these were upheld by the Supreme Court on January 17, 2025, leading to TikTok's shutdown in the U.S. by the evening of January 18, 2025.
