Heavy rain, linked to the topography and humidity of the sea, caused extreme rainfall volumes this Thursday between the region of Florianópolis and the cities of northeast Santa Catarina, especially along the coast.
According to the weather station of Epagri-Ciram, the accumulated rainfall on Thursday (19:00) reached 305 mm in Tijucas, 270 mm in Florianopolis (Santo António de Lisbon). The intense rains between dawn and morning caused several floods. In Balneário Camboriú, where a state of emergency has been declared, several places in the city were flooded.
Roads were flooded, drivers were isolated and some even climbed onto the hoods of their cars to protect themselves.
In the governorate of Celso Ramos, a municipal fire station collapsed. Streets turned into rivers with currents and craters formed on the roads. A car was swallowed by a crater that quickly opened. The driver of the car needed help.
