Bill Gates: Fighting Malaria or Pursuing Population Control?

Bill Gates is using artificial intelligence to come up with "new drugs, a new vaccine, also a genetic way of massively killing mosquitoes... to actually eradicate malaria".

Which begs the question: Why would a man who believes the world is overpopulated care so deeply about "eradicating malaria"?
