Stand-up Comedy: Women… Los Angeles vs. the Midwest

I married a Midwest woman.

A corn-fed Iowa girl, to be specific.

Sure, The Beach Boys (and David Lee Roth) wished they all could be California girls, but I wasn’t too keen on most of the women I met in Los Angeles.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the Val Kilmer/Robert Downey Jr. classic (thank you, Shane Black) has a great moment where the damaged souls of the city of angels are discussed. If you haven’t seen the film, you’re missing out.

Anyway, while it’s true that you can find superficial, shallow, vain, horrible people anywhere, Hollywood seems to be a magnet for them.

Thus, the amount of people you wouldn’t want to spend time with is higher on the West Coast. The ratio of decent-to-decadent is off.

Thus, my willingness to leave when I met the one.

We met in 2006.

I left in 2007.
