Russia planned aerial terror against Poland and global airlines
Russia prepared sabotage in Poland's airspace and against airlines worldwide, the Polish PM states during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Tusk, acts of sabotage were recorded, which he believes are part of the war Russia declared against the entire civilized world, not just Ukraine. In his opinion, such Russian actions also require joint efforts.
"Poland plays a key role in opposing these sabotages and diversions happening not only on Polish territory. Some acts of sabotage by Russia or preparations for a diversion took place in other countries. I can only confirm the information. Russia planned air terror, not only against Poland but also against airlines worldwide," said Tusk.
Recently, in several EU countries, there have been multiple reports of unidentified drones flying over military sites. For example, in November last year, small drones flew over US military bases in the UK.
The New York Times reported in recent days that U.S. intelligence warned the White House that Russia was planning to smuggle incendiary devices onto cargo planes heading to the U.S. The White House, according to the Times, warned the Kremlin to stop the operation.Moscow has been previously accused of sabotaging European transport infrastructure and jamming GPS signals by several countries as part of a campaign of hybrid warfare by Russian leader Vladimir Putin against the continent.
In April 2024, Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka warned that Russia has conducted "thousands of attempts" to attack European railways since the beginning of Moscow's full-scale war on Ukraine. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called the accusation "baseless."
Most recently, Russia was accused of shooting down an Azerbaijani passenger jet that crashed in Kazakhstan, killing 38 people. The incident echoed the downing of the MH17 plane in 2014 over eastern Ukraine in territory controlled by Russian-backed separatists, which killed 298 people.
While Putin apologized without shouldering the blame for the Azerbaijani crash, Russia has never accepted responsibility for the MH17 disaster.
Also, Bild reported that a drone was monitoring the British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth in the portof Hamburg. The ship entered the German port this week.
At the end of last year, in December, unidentified drones were spotted over the Ramstein military base in Germany. UAVs were also seen over the facilities of the defense concern Rheinmetall.
