Mozambique's new president has officially taken office, sworn in against a backdrop of a contested election, protests and violence on the streets.

Daniel Chapo - from the Frelimo Party - won the election with a landslide 71% of the vote.

Opposition leader Venancio Mondlane, of the Optimist Party received only 20% of votes, leading him to claim the election was rigged.

International election observers have noted irregularities in the process.
