This is the one Mama used to make. I never knew why it was called a "Sheath Cake", but who really cares, right? I thought it was probably a typo or a lisp of "Sheet Cake", but that doesn't make sense either. It was baked in a 13 × 9 Cake Pan, not a Sheet Pan like the School Cafeteria Ladies used. If anyone knows why it was called a "Sheath Cake", please let me know. This particular version is from the late 1960's BETA SIGMA PHI COOKBOOK, "Desserts" edition. Courtesy of Elizabeth Kizer, Pres. Xi Mu, Holly Springs, Mississippi. Every female in my family had a copy of this Cookbook. I ended up with this one after my Mother passed years ago. It's funny how she made little check marks and short comments about the different recipes she tried making. Some were amazing, some were awful or didn't even turn out at all and we laughed about that for years.
