Awaken Biblical Prophecy Commentary – David’s Mighty Men Then & Now

When we read the narrative about David’s Mighty Men in 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11, we express wonder at their amazing feats. Truth be told, we all love heroes, and it wouldn’t be a stretch for us to place these men on a pedestal – not necessarily to worship them, but to set them apart as more than mere mortals. Surely, they had faith and courage far beyond what we can comprehend, and given that their accomplishments made them bigger than life, it’s doubtful they had much in common with others around them who weren’t so grand, glorious, and gifted. Or did they? Could they have been simply ordinary men no different than others, but through circumstances, perseverance, and by conquering their fear, this made the difference in what they did and thus made them larger than life?
