The Italian Valentina Petrillo, a father of two who won 11 Italian national titles as a man, has faced criticism for participating in the Games. Petrillo claims the right to compete in the female category for the sake of happiness. Although World Para Athletics insists that Petrillo's testosterone levels after transitioning make her eligible to compete, the athlete had an additional advantage over the competitors from Venezuela and China in him heat.
