Biden And Harris Hold A Wildfire Briefing, And It Turns Into A Total Disaster

Posted • January 13, 2025: President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris decided to cosplay as leaders on Monday by giving a briefing on the devastating California wildfires. That's the thing about pretending, though. It rarely ends well, and things went downhill very quickly. While sitting at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, Biden kept his eyes locked on his script, bragging about giving victims a "one-time payment of $770." What that is supposed to accomplish wasn't immediately apparent. Biden: "People impacted by these fires are gonna receive one-time payment of $770. One-time payment." -- Giving away a one-time payment of $770 is basically meaningless to anyone who lost their home in the wildfires. That might cover a few nights at a hotel, but that's about it. It certainly won't be useful in actually recovering from the damage.

But let's put that aside because this is a matter of priorities. For context, at the end of December, it was reported that the United States had provided $3.4 billion to pay the salaries of Ukrainian bureaucrats and schoolteachers. Not to buy weapons for soldiers on the front line, not to supply ammunition, but to pay government officials living in the safest parts of the country. So taxpayers are on the hook to pay the salaries of government officials from another country but American disaster victims are only given a pittance of $770 after losing everything. It's an absurd perversion of priorities that continues to play out in a way that is impossible for the public to ignore. If anyone is still confused as to why Donald Trump won the 2024 election, this is one of the reasons why. Democrats have projected their care and empathy (with other peoples' money, of course) on everyone but the people they supposedly exist to represent and protect.

That's not a commentary on the right of Ukraine to defend itself, which it certainly possesses. It's a commentary on Americans always getting the short straw when they are the ones paying the bills. Kamala Harris' time to speak was no better. Instead of offering something tangible to those suffering, the twice-failed presidential candidate launched into a word salad where she demanded the victims be "patient." -- Kamala to wildfire victims: "It's critically important that, to the extent you can find anything that gives you an ability to be patient in this extremely dangerous and unprecedented crisis, that you do." -- It's scary to think that she was almost President of the United States. Every single time I hear her speak in public, I'm reminded of just how much of a vapid empty suit she is. This is a woman who offers nothing of substance to any situation she's involved in. It's always a confusing mix of platitudes because it would take actual work for her to offer more, and she's the laziest major politician I've ever seen.

I don't think wildfire victims who have lost their homes and are only being offered $770 should be expected to be "patient" while incompetent politicians such as Harris preen for the cameras from the Oval Office. The optics are awful enough, but the real-world results are far worse. Biden and Harris share the blame with California officials for this latest disaster. Federal lands are often the starting place for these fires, and before the 2024 election, the Biden administration canceled all controlled burns in California out of fear the White House would get blamed if something went wrong. Mercifully, the briefing ended fairly quickly, at which point America was treated to Biden making faces at members of the press as his handlers shouted at them to leave the room. -- Biden sits and makes faces at the press as his handlers SCREAM at them to leave the room following his wildfires briefing.
