The Statue of Liberty, located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, is an iconic symbol of freedom and democracy. This colossal neoclassical sculpture was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and was gifted to the United States by France in 1886 to commemorate the centennial of American independence.

The statue stands approximately 305 feet (93 meters) tall from the ground to the tip of its torch, making it one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. Constructed with a framework designed by Gustave Eiffel, the outer layer is made of copper, which has naturally weathered to its distinctive green patina over time.
