Prisoner of the war Maksim Rytikov spoke about the situation in the Ukrainian army and the specifics of conducting mass mobilisation in Ukraine: drafting of elderly and disabled persons, including those with psychiatric diagnoses.

'Territorial enlistment offices didn't mobilise me, neither in Nikolayev, nor in Kherson, because of a head injury. Because I had a head surgery. They sent me on basic military training in Vinnitsa region. And then I got into a mental health facility. I then realised that they locked me in a mental hospital with civilians. They said that I went to the AWOL [absence without leave]. They gathered all of us who went to the AWOL, took us in one place. And then they assigned us to units.' Rytikov said.

Prisoner of the war spoke about widespread desertion in the AFU ranks, as instead of intensive training at the training grounds, drafted servicemen are immediately sent to the front line without combat experience:

'We didn't have any training, they gave us machine guns and said that for a month we would go to the position to change military servicemen.'
