Daily Snark 1/11/25 California Regulators Fail the People

I have a hunch that people are going to miss the context of this one.

When passions are high, logic flies out the window.

You have the idiots on Fox News and president-elect Trump spewing hate-driven, politically-motivated rhetoric when it comes to the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles, which isn’t helpful.

Do I want to be lumped in with them?

Nope.

Will I be?

Possibly.

It all depends on the emotional state of the person viewing the video.

Speaking of which, and speaking of politics, if you know anything about the proposed plant, Gavin Newsom was all for it. He said California needed the desalination treatment center to help the state.

I’m sure that fact will be lost on people leaning right, because they like to point fingers and lay blame where it doesn’t always need to be.

Speaking of which: the smelt.

The funny thing about the smelt-fish controversy is: smelt nest in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta.

That’s over 400 miles from the Pacific Palisades.

Which means that water system wouldn’t be being used to fight the fires anyway.

(Yes, I know… the situation is about overall water use/consumption/diversion, so a faucet in San Fran does relate to a toilet flush in San Diego, but now we’re getting into the minutia of things.)

Anyway, reports say that the 100 mph winds were spreading the fire at a rate of over five football fields per minute at one point.

There’s pretty much nothing that could hold that in check.

Advance preparation, safety measures aplenty, and luck.

That’s what you have to rely on in horrific situations.

Since we as a species seem dead set on ignoring climate change, while conversely building homes where this happens every year, I’m not sure this cycle will ever stop.

This video isn't about outrage, but maybe people should be outraged for the right reasons, not whatever Jesse Watters is currently crowing about.
