"We'll be ready to finish this." Sony Pictures Home Ent. has revealed an official trailer for an action sequel called Kill 'Em All 2 with JCVD. Did anyone want this? Has anyone been waiting for this? The original Kill 'Em All first opened in 2017 directed by Peter Malota, though I can't remember anything about it. Who saw it? This sequel is being dumped direct-to-video next week. Philip and Suzanne, now agents partnered by the CIA, head to Europe on a new assignment. Jean-Claude Van Damme return as Philip, though Autumn Reeser as Suzanne from the first movie has been replaced by Jacqueline Fernandez as a character named Vanessa instead. The cast also includes Peter Stormare, Maria Conchita Alonso, Andrei Lenart, and Talia Asseraf. On the run, outnumbered, and fighting for their lives, this father and daughter unite to save themselves and the village that Phillip once called home. This looks absolutely terrible, not even worthy of a direct-to-video drop. Every aspect looks bad. JCVD barely even has any action in this trailer - what a waste.
Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Valeri Milev's sequel Kill 'Em All 2, direct from YouTube:

Everyone's favorite kickboxer is back in action with the new Jean-Claude Van Damme sequel, Kill Em All 2, which just released its first trailer. The new trailer for Kill Em All 2 was released exclusively on Deadline, giving fans of Van Damme their first look at what's in store for the actor's latest action spectacle. As per usual with just about every action-packed sequel, this time, the stakes are personal.
Taking place seven years after the events of the original Kill Em All, the sequel sees the main protagonist Phillip (Jeaan-Claude Van Damme) taking a page out of Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) from The Equalizer 3's playbook by living out his retirement in Italy. He's there trying to make up lost time with his formerly estranged daughter Vanessa (Jacqueline Ferandez), but since this is a Jean-Claude Van Damme action movie, these peaceful times can only last for so long. The father-daughter duo soon become the targets of Vlad Petrovic (Andre Lenart) — the sadistic brother of the first film's villain who has sworn revenge against Phillip and everything he's ever cared about. Now, Phillip and Vanessaa will have to fight tooth and nail to survive and hopefully live out the rest of their retirement without having to evade dangerous men like Vlad.
The official synopsis for Kill Em All 2 reads as follows:
"Seven years after the events of 'Kill Em All', retired spy Phillip and his long-lost daughter, Vanessa, are living peacefully off the grid in Italy. But when their whereabouts are discovered by Vlad, the vengeful brother of their previous target, they must do anything it takes to escape his merciless army. Jean-Claude Van Damme's long and prestigious career as an action superstar requires no introduction. His list of iconic roles includes such works as Kickboxer, Universal Soldier, and, a personal favorite of ours, Street Fighter (which is set to get a new adaptation). Van Damme also isn't the only star who is returning for Kill Em All 2 either. Also returning is The Running Man star Maria Conchita Alonso as Agent Linda Sanders and Constantine star Peter Stormare as Agent Mark Holman.

Sony Pictures has released the trailer for Jean-Claude Van Damme's action sequel Kill 'Em All 2. I’ve never seen the first film, but it must’ve done well enough for a sequel to be made.
The film is set seven years after the events of Kill 'Em All, and in the story “retired spy Phillip (Van Damme) and his long-lost daughter, Vanessa, are living peacefully off the grid in Italy.
“When their whereabouts are discovered by Vlad, the vengeful brother of their previous target, they must do anything it takes to escape his merciless army. On the run, outnumbered, and fighting for their lives, father and daughter unite to save themselves and the village that Phillip once called home.
“To defeat Vlad's men and rescue the innocent lives they've endangered, Phillip & Vanessa know the job isn't done until the last bullet is fired.”
The movie was directed by Valeri Milev and it also stars Peter Stormare, Maria Conchita Alonso, Andrei Lenart, and Talia Asseraf.
The movie doesn’t look good at all and it was dumped directly on VOD where you can watch it now.

At long last, Netflix is about to debut the much-anticipated action-comedy anime Sakamoto Days this weekend and, to celebrate, the streamer has shared one final trailer introducing viewers to Taro Sakamoto. Once a legendary hitman at the top of his game, he abandoned his profession to settle down with his family and run a convenience store. Leaving the criminal life behind isn't easy, however, and it isn't long before his past catches up with him and threatens those he loves. The footage shows Sakamoto using his fabled skills to protect the cozy life he's built, with Critical Role host Matthew Mercer lending his voice to the former killer for the star-studded English dub.
Beginning like a tense action thriller, the new teaser gives a glimpse at Sakamoto's old life of slicing through and mowing down gang members with ease and striking fear into the hearts of everyone in the criminal underworld. However, all of that changes when the love of his life, Aoi, begs him to promise her that he'll never kill again. Just like that, he retires, gets married, has a child, and grows into an overweight, unassuming convenience store owner that young fellow former assassin Shin Asakura can barely recognize. His skills haven't faded one bit though, and he'll need everything from his ability to catch bullets with chopsticks to his fearsome hand-to-hand skills to fend off the myriad of colorful characters who want to claim the 1 billion yen bounty on his head. Although he's free to beat the tar out of them (and profit from the bandages they have to buy), if he violates the family rule and kills anyone, he'll be served his divorce papers on the spot by a vengeful Aoi.
Sakamoto Days promises a blend of silliness and warm family fuzzies with action and high stakes as Sakamoto and his comrades defend their little family. It's based on Yuto Suzuki's wildly popular manga of the same name serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and hails from director Masaki Watanabe and Dr. Stone production company TMS Entertainment. Speaking to Tudum, Watanabe wants to ensure that, while the series will offer plenty of laughs, the action will never take a backseat and will reflect the same intensity he felt reading its source material:
“When I first had the chance to read Sakamoto Days, I remember how electrifying the powerful action scenes were. Keeping that feeling at the heart of production, I want to take all the components unique to the screen — movement, color, and sound — to make Sakamoto Days a dynamic and fast-paced anime, while keeping in mind the humor sprinkled throughout the original. We intend to faithfully portray the character of Sakamoto, the family man and the killer who doesn’t kill. Our staff are putting their all into this, so stay tuned!”
'Sakamoto Days' Boasts a Star-Studded English Dub Cast
Adding to the excitement for the series is the English dub cast, which sees Mercer joined by a mix of Netflix and anime favorites. Dallas Liu, who plays Prince Zuko in the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, voices Shin, with Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña as Heisuke Mashimo, Solo Leveling's Aleks Le as Nagumo, Turning Red's Rosalie Chiang as Lu Shaotang, multi-talented YouTube star Rosie Okumura as Aoi, and Delicious in Dungeon's SungWon Cho as Boiled. Also on board are WWE superstar Lexi Cabrera, better known as Alexa Bliss, Tik-Tok sensation Du-Shaunt “Fik-Shun” Stegall, and Toru Uchikado.
Sakamoto Days Season 1 Part 1 will feature 11 episodes airing weekly starting this Saturday, January 11. Part 2 will debut sometime in July.

Carry-On is a 2024 American action thriller film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by T. J. Fixman. The film stars Taron Egerton, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler and Jason Bateman. Its plot follows a young TSA officer who is blackmailed into allowing a nerve agent on board a flight during Christmas Eve.
Carry-On was released by Netflix on December 13, 2024, received positive reviews from critics, and earned more views during its opening week than any other film released on Netflix in 2024.[1]
Plot
Ethan Kopek, a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer at Los Angeles International Airport, has become cynical and unambitious after failing the police academy by concealing his father's criminal history. On Christmas Eve, his pregnant girlfriend, Nora, encourages him to reapply and pursue his dream. Instead, Ethan requests his supervisor, Phil Sarkowski, assign him to manage a baggage-scanning lane, hoping to demonstrate his merit for a promotion.
During his shift, Ethan receives an earbud, through which he is contacted by a ruthless mercenary, the Traveler, who orders him to let a specific carry-on case pass through the scanner—or Nora will be killed. The Traveler's accomplice, the Watcher, remotely monitors Ethan, thwarting his attempts to alert the authorities. Ethan secretly warns his colleague, Lionel, using a message written in invisible ink. However, before Lionel can act, the Traveler poisons him with aconitine, causing a fatal heart attack.
Due to Ethan's seemingly erratic behavior, his friend Jason takes over his position. The Traveler tells Ethan he will kill Jason if necessary to execute his plan, so Ethan gets Jason fired by framing him for being drunk on the job. As instructed, Ethan lets a man pass through with the carry-on case, spying the name Mateo Flores on his boarding pass. The Traveler then reveals the case's contents: Novichok, a lethal and incurable nerve agent.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detective Elena Cole investigates a double homicide and discovers the victims had smuggled Novichok into the country. Cole alerts the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and connects the threat to Ethan's aborted 911 call. In response, a terminal-wide sweep is ordered. Ethan adds Mateo to the list of passengers flagged for inspection. However, the Traveler suspects Ethan's interference and confronts him in the restroom. Ethan seizes the Traveler's plastic gun. In retaliation, the Traveler arms the Novichok bomb.
Sarkowski detains Mateo for inspection, but Ethan interrupts, holding them both at gunpoint. Mateo fatally stabs Sarkowski after Ethan refuses to shoot him, before revealing that he, too, is being coerced; the Watcher is holding Mateo's husband, Jesse, hostage. With time running out, the Traveler guides Ethan to reset the bomb. Afterward, Mateo is ordered to kill Ethan and takes the plastic gun, but he is killed when it overheats and explodes. The Traveler retrieves the Novichok case and orders the Watcher to kill Nora. Ethan uses Mateo's phone to warn her. Nora narrowly evades the Watcher, who is ultimately killed by Jesse.
En route to the airport with DHS agent John Alcott, Cole soon realizes the agent is an imposter—one of the Traveler's accomplices—and kills him in self-defense. Upon arriving at the airport, Cole confronts Ethan, confirms the active threat, and alerts the LAPD, initiating a terminal shutdown. Cole uncovers that the Traveler's target is a congresswoman aboard a flight to Washington, D.C., who advocates for increased weapons funding. The Novichok attack is designed to implicate Russia, ensuring congressional approval of substantial defense spending, thereby enriching weapons manufacturers.
The Traveler boards the flight, unaware that Ethan has switched the bomb into an identical but larger suitcase, forcing him to stow it in the plane's cargo hold. Ethan infiltrates the hold to disarm the bomb, while Nora persuades Cole to allow the flight to take off, preventing the Traveler from becoming suspicious. As Ethan begins dismantling the bomb, the Traveler receives an alert and confronts him at gunpoint. Before the Traveler can re-arm the Novichok and escape using a parachute, Ethan locks him inside an airtight refrigeration unit with the nerve agent, killing him. The plane safely returns to the airport.
One year later, Ethan, Nora, and their child pass through a TSA checkpoint as they prepare to travel to Tahiti with Jason and his family. Ethan places his LAPD badge in the scanning tray.
Cast
Taron Egerton as Ethan Kopek, a 30-year-old man who works as a TSA officer at Los Angeles International Airport.
Jason Bateman as Traveler, a ruthless mercenary who blackmails Ethan to deliver a dangerous package, revealed to be Novichok.
Sofia Carson as Nora Parisi, a 27-year-old woman who works at the airport as an airline manager. Nora is Ethan's girlfriend and is pregnant with their child.
Danielle Deadwyler as Elena Cole, an LAPD detective investigating the Novichok.
Theo Rossi as Watcher, Traveler's partner who helps him spy on Ethan to ensure that the package clears TSA screening.
Logan Marshall-Green as Agent Alcott, a DHS agent revealed to be an impersonator and one of Traveler's accomplices.
Dean Norris as Phil Sarkowski, senior TSA agent at the airport and Ethan and Jason's supervisor.
Sinqua Walls as Jason Noble, Ethan's friend and fellow TSA officer. Jason has a wife named Rochelle and they have twin sons.
Curtiss Cook as Lionel Williams, Ethan's colleague who works as a police officer at the airport.
Josh Brener as Herschel, Elena's partner who helps her investigate the events.
Tonatiuh Elizarraraz as Mateo Flores, a hostage of the Traveler who is forced to cooperate to save his husband's life.
Production
In June 2021, Amblin Partners signed a deal with Netflix to produce multiple films per year for the streaming service.[2] Carry-On was originally planned to be the first film to come from the deal, the initial draft of the screenplay was written by former Insomniac Games writer T. J. Fixman, with Michael Green writing another draft.[3] Only Fixman was eventually credited with the screenplay while Green received an off-screen "Additional Literary Material" credit.[4] Fixman intended the film to be an illustration of the trolley problem.[5]
In July 2022, it was announced that Taron Egerton was attached to star in the lead role of Ethan Kopek.[3] In August 2022, Jason Bateman joined the film co-starring alongside Egerton as the mysterious traveler.[6] Sofia Carson and Danielle Deadwyler joined the cast in September 2022.[7] Theo Rossi joined the cast in October 2022.[8] Dean Norris, Logan Marshall-Green, and Sinqua Walls were among the eight new cast additions to join the film later that month.[9]
On an estimated budget of $47 million,[10] principal photography took place in New Orleans, Louisiana from September 2022 to January 2023.[11]
Fixman received extensive expert advice about airport security but deliberately used artistic license with TSA procedures for the sake of the storyline.[5]
Release
Carry-On was produced by DreamWorks Pictures, but was released under the Amblin Entertainment banner.[12] Carry-On was released on Netflix on December 13, 2024.[13][14]
Ten days after its release, the film had 97 million views, and was anticipated to become one of the top ten most-watched films on Netflix.[15]
In January 2025, Carry-On became the fifth-most-watched Netflix English-language film of all time, having received more than 149.5 million views.[16]
Reception
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 88% of 88 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.8/10. The website's consensus reads: "Taron Egerton and an against-type Jason Bateman make for great adversaries in Carry-On, a throwback thriller that clears all checkpoints of plot logic with its confident execution."[17] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 68 out of 100, based on 26 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews.[18]
Sarah Little, writing for Screen Rant, said, "Netflix's Carry-On has been shockingly divisive in the days following its premiere, as most critics seemingly enjoyed the movie, while audiences have (ironically) been more critical of it."[19]
The TSA noted that the film contains inaccuracies, but praised the filmmakers for portraying a TSA officer in a heroic light.[5]

Don't Move is a 2024 American thriller film starring Kelsey Asbille, Finn Wittrock, Moray Treadwell, and Daniel Francis. It was directed by Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, and written by TJ Cimfel and David White.
Grieving mother Iris inadvertently comes across a serial killer, who injects her with a paralytic agent. She must escape by running, fighting and hiding before it takes full effect and her body shuts down.
Netflix released the film on October 25, 2024.
Plot
Iris wakes up one morning and drives to a California state park unnoticed by her sleeping husband. She grieves for her young son Mateo, who died during a family hiking trip, and has taken Mateo's toy boat to a memorial she has built at the base of a tree. While contemplating suicide at a cliff's edge, Iris is interrupted by Richard.
He encourages her not to jump and relays his own tragic past. Iris changes her mind and follows Richard back to their parked cars. There, he attacks her with a stun device, ties her wrists and ankles with zip ties, and places her in the back of his car. Iris frees her hands and while attacking Richard, she discovered that he had earlier injected her with a paralyzing agent. She escapes into the thick forest, but the effects of the drug gradually incapacitate her.
Iris is discovered by Bill, who takes her to his cabin to render aid. Richard appears at the cabin, but a suspicious Bill refuses to reveal Iris' presence and calls 911. A fight ensues between Richard and Bill. Bill is killed and Iris reveals herself when Richard sets the cabin on fire.
Richard steals Bill's truck and returns to his car, which was wrecked when Iris attacked him. A highway patrol officer stops to investigate, but Richard kills him when he becomes suspicious. Richard takes Iris to a lake intending to drown her with weights off the side of a rowboat. Iris, having partially regained her motor skills, stabs Richard in the neck and shoots him with the gun Richard took from the dead highway patrolman. In the melee, some of the bullets pierce the hull and sink the boat with the immobilized Iris.
Iris emerges from the water and manages to swim to the dock where they embarked. Richard, mortally wounded, floats ashore several yards away. Iris makes her way to him, thanks him for renewing her will to live, and walks away, leaving him to a presumably painful death.

Production
In December 2022, it was reported that Adam Schindler and Brian Netto would direct the thriller Don't Move, written by TJ Cimfel and David White.[2] It was produced by Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi of Raimi Productions, Christian Mercuri's Capstone Studios, Alex Lebovici of Hammerstone Studios, and Sarah Sarandos.[3][4]
In May 2023, Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock were cast in lead roles.[3] Principal photography took place in Bulgaria from June to late July 2023.[5][3] Two days before completion, production was granted an interim agreement to continue filming during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.[5][6] Mark Korven and Michelle Osis scored the film.[7]
Release
In November 2023, Signature Entertainment acquired the distribution rights for the United Kingdom and Ireland.[8] In April 2024, Netflix bought worldwide rights.[9] The film was released on Netflix on October 25, 2024.[10]
Reception
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 72% of 47 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.9/10. The website's consensus reads: "Don't Move gets a reasonable amount of mileage out of its self-imposed limitations, making for a slight but effective thriller that'll get the blood pumping."[11] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 54 out of 100, based on nine critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews.[12]
Ben Travis of Empire gave the film 3/5 stars, writing, "The results are consistently engaging and well-calibrated for Friday-night Netflix viewing – a bright calling card for its filmmakers, even if it isn't destined to live long in the memory."[13] The Guardian's Benjamin Lee also gave it 3/5 stars, writing, "Don't Move doesn't quite stick the landing as smoothly as one might hope with a few too many incredulous moments... and some biffed one-liners, but there are enough heart-in-throat moments on the way there to separate this from most of the genre guff on Netflix."[14]

Elevation is a 2024 American post-apocalyptic action thriller film directed by George Nolfi and written by Kenny Ryan and Jacob Roman. It stars Anthony Mackie, Morena Baccarin, and Maddie Hasson.
Elevation was released in the United States on November 8, 2024.
Plot
Three years prior to the events of the film, mysterious apex predators called Reapers emerged from sinkholes underground and exterminated humanity, with 95% killed in the first month. Survivors live in pocketed communities 8,000 feet or more above sea level - elevations that the creatures do not venture into.
One of the pocket communities is Lost Gulch Refuge in Front Range, Colorado, where a single father, Will, lives with his son, Hunter, who has a lung disease. Will is haunted by the death of his wife, Tara, who was killed by Reapers during an expedition with Nina, a former scientist, to find their weaknesses. Hunter becomes irritated after months of isolation; neighboring communities have turned off their radios to conserve their remaining electricity and use flags to communicate instead. Will learns that he is running out of oxygen filters for Hunter. Nina tries to dissuade Will from journeying to Boulder, Colorado in order to find more filters, but Will convinces her to come with him in order to reach her old laboratory and find a way to kill the Reapers.
Katie joins them, and they enter the Elba Fire Road that leads them to a mine below the safety line. Nina has a compass device she invented that can detect a nearby Reaper due to their high bioelectromagnetic pulses. They gather supplies along the way, including a grenade launcher, and follow the road leading them to a former ski area. They are spotted by a Reaper, but Will turns on the ski lift's backup generators, allowing the group to narrowly escape the Reaper above the safety line. They rest at the old lodge, where Nina explains that the Reapers don't eat or sleep, theorizing that they are not biological creatures.
The next morning, the group comes to a former mining tunnel Will knows from when he was a miner; however, the mines' lower levels dip below the safety line, and if they enter, Nina's compass won't warn them of nearby Reapers since it does not function underground. As they enter the mines, they find that the level above the safety line was welded shut during the initial invasion, forcing them to enter the lower levels. The group is then attacked by a Reaper, and Katie is killed by its tendrils. Nina and Will manage to escape and make it back to the surface above the safety line.
Nina wants to return to her lab for her stockpile of magnesium oxide, hypothesizing that the Reaper's impenetrable scales produce magnetic defense mechanisms and if one of the bullets is laced with a magnesium mineral, it will penetrate and kill the creature through internal combustion. They proceed to Boulder and manage to find oxygen filters in an abandoned hospital. A Reaper attacks them, but Will shoots at gas canisters to stall it, giving them enough time to escape. Will wants to get back to his son, but Nina convinces him to help her return to her former laboratory at the U.S. Department of Energy. Will learns that Nina lost her family to a Reaper attack. Nina lets Will go back to his son while she researches how to kill the creatures. After several attempts, Nina successfully kills a Reaper that breaks into the lab with a bullet laced in a magnesium/cobalt mixture.
Will leaves in a pickup truck, but his tires pop, forcing him to run to the safety line while pursued by Reapers. The Reapers corner him, but Nina arrives just in time and kills the Reapers with her Co/Mg-laced bullets, causing them to explode from internal combustion upon impact. They realize that the Reapers are not biological, but machines built using advanced alien technology, proving Nina's theory correct.
They return to Lost Gulch and Will reunites with Hunter. Nina raises a pirate flag for other nearby communities in the Rocky Mountains, signifying that a Reaper has been killed. The communities resume radio contact and start arming themselves with Co/Mg-coated bullets to fight back against the Reapers.
Sometime later, Nina looks through a telescope with Will at her side as three greenish 'meteorites' enter orbit.

Anthony Mackie, Morena Baccarin, and Maddie Hasson were set to star.[5] Principal photography began by November 2022, in Colorado,[6] and had wrapped by late March 2023.[7]
Release
In May 2024, Vertical acquired rights to the film.[8] Elevation was released in the United States on November 8, 2024.[9]
Reception
Box office
In the United States and Canada, Elevation was released alongside Heretic, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Weekend in Taipei, and the wide expansion of Anora. The film debuted with $1.2 million from 1,416 theaters in its opening weekend, finishing 11th at the box office.[10]
Critical response
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 53% of 45 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.3/10. The website's consensus reads: "Beautiful scenery and a solid star turn from Anthony Mackie raise Elevation up to an extent, but this sci-fi thriller is too derivative to reach the peak of its potential."[11] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 49 out of 100, based on eight critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews.[12]
Zachary Lee of RogerEbert.com gave the film two and a half out of four stars and wrote, "[W]hile Elevation may never rise above its genre trappings or escape the shadow of its influences, it never stoops so low as to be mindlessly vapid. Simply executed at ninety minutes, it's escapism of the highest order, offering perils at a screen's distance of safety."[13]

Plot
John D'Silva, a bakery owner, lives in Kerala with his daughter Khushi and his best friend Jackie. John befriends Khushi’s teacher Tara, who eventually develops a crush on him. While visiting a church with John and Tara, Khushi provokes a sex-trafficking gang looking for their victim, but John quickly diffuses the situation. Tara notices a victim of the mob hiding and hides her in the boot of their vehicle, unbeknownst to John and Khushi. They all go to the police station to file a complaint, however an officer claims to recognize John as Satya Verma; John tells the officer that he is a normal and ordinary man. In the evening, the gang arrives at John's house to kill Khushi, forcing John to turn violent and kill the goons. Tara eventually learns John is actually DCP Satya Verma IPS, and arrives at John's location just as John defeats the goons. Jackie, who was Head constable Ram Sevak with Satya Verma, learns that Tara is in the police force and her real name is Adhira Verman IPS. He starts explaining John's past to her.
Past: Satya receives a complaint from the parents of a girl named Amba, who went missing for days. Satya begins the investigation and learns that Ashwin, who is the son of a notorious politician Nanaji aka Babbar Sher, had sexually assaulted Amba to death. Knowing that the court is unable to do anything about Amba’s murder, Satya takes law into his own hands and brutally kills Ashwin. Satya reveals this to Babbar Sher, who swears to avenge Ashwin’s death.
Meanwhile, Satya meets Meera, a Chennai-based doctor, and the two fall in love with each other. When Satya goes to meet Meera’s family only for Babbar Sher sends goons to kill Satya, but Satya defeats them and arrests Babbar Sher at Ashwin’s funeral. Meera meets with Satya and tells him to leave the police, but Satya manages to convince her to let him stay at his job. Satya and Meera marry each other and lead a happy life with their daughter Khushi.
On the night of Khushi’s birthday, Babbar Sher, Bhima and Inspector Baldev Patil barge in at Satya’s house, where they kill Meera, Satya’s mother Madhvi and attempt to drown Khushi. A dying Meera saves Khushi, where she makes Satya to take a vow that he would leave the police force and lead a peaceful life with Khushi. Satya accepts the vow, where he bids a tearful goodbye to Meera and fakes his death to lead a peaceful life with Khushi.
Present: Adhira feels sad about Satya's tragic life and starts caring for him and Khushi. When Khushi goes on a school trip, Babbar Sher, who has learned that Satya and Khushi are alive, orchestrates an accident on the school bus. With the help of Adhira and the local people, Satya manages to save Khushi. Learning that Babbar is behind the accident, Satya decides to exact vengeance and returns to Mumbai, puts an end to Babbar Sher's illegal activities and kills Baldev and Bhima. Babbar Sher kidnaps Khushi despite attempts from Ram and Adhira in stopping them, Satya arrives at Babbar Sher's hideout, saves Khushi and a group of woman, who charges towards Babbar Sher, thus killing him.

Development
Two months after the release of Theri (2016), it was reported that the film would be remade in Hindi with Rohit Shetty, directing the venture and Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar as the frontrunners to play the leads.[11] However, Shetty denied the plans of remaking the film.[12] In late April 2020, reports of a potential Hindi remake being planned with Varun Dhawan being approached to play the lead role.[13] However, it was undisclosed whether Atlee, the director of the original film, would direct the venture or give the role to someone else.[13] Reportedly, the director had met the actor in Mumbai during 2019 to discuss the possibilities of a possible collaboration in the near future.[14][15] However, no development took place until in early March 2022, as Dhawan had reportedly completed his existing commitments, he met Atlee again to finalise their project.[16]
On 19 March, their collaboration was publicly announced.[17] Tentatively titled as VD18, instead of directing it, Atlee was revealed to produce the project under his house A for Apple Productions, along with Murad Khetani's Cine1 Studios and Jyoti Deshpande's Jio Studios. Kalees, who had earlier assisted Atlee and directed the Tamil techno-thriller film Kee (2019), was hired to helm the project.[18][19] The official title Baby John was announced on 5 February 2024.[20] In an interview with Trisha Bhattacharya of India Today, Dhawan stated: "When Atlee came with this film, there was a reason behind it, and he said that we had to change a lot of the geography of the film. We have to use it as an adaptation and not really a proper remake, and I think that's what's done."[21] He also added that the film, highlighted real-life incidents about women's safety in India and a contemporary take on parenting.[22]
Casting
Janhvi Kapoor was reported to play the lead actress role, pairing opposite Varun for the second time after Bawaal (2023).[18][23] However, Keerthy Suresh was later confirmed to have replaced Kapoor, thereby marking her Hindi film debut.[24] She would reportedly receive a remuneration of ₹3 crore (US$350,000) and reprise Samantha's role in the original film.[25] Wamiqa Gabbi was cast to reprise the role of Amy Jackson.[26][27] Jackie Shroff was cast to play the main antagonist, reprising the role of late Mahendran.[28]
Initially, Alaayna Hussain was cast to play the role of Dhawan's daughter, reprising the role of Baby Nainika.[29] But, she was replaced by Zara Zyanna, during the production.[30] Rajpal Yadav and Sheeba Chaddha were cast in pivotal roles, reprising the role of Rajendran and Radhika Sarathkumar, respectively.[31] Sanya Malhotra makes a special appearance as a prospective bride of Dhawan, reprising the role of Sunaina.[32] Salman Khan would also make a cameo appearance, ahead of his collaboration with Atlee for a potential project.[33][34][35]
Filming
Principal photography commenced with an inaugural puja ceremony on 9 August 2023.[b][37] The first schedule was commenced the following day in Mumbai.[38] On 7 September, Dhawan stated that he had injured his foot during filming which caused the film to be put on hold.[39] After his recovery, shooting resumed on 12 September.[40] Gabbi began filming her portions from 15 December, with production moving to Kerala.[41][42] On 23 December, filming was put on hold due to Dhawan getting injured again.[43] The first schedule was completed by 27 December.[44][45]
On 17 March 2024, filming for the second schedule commenced in Mumbai.[46] By 2 April, Dhawan in his Instagram account, revealed that he had completed 70 days of filming his portions.[47] A song featuring Dhawan and Suresh ("Nain Mataka") was filmed at specially constructed sets erected at Film City, Mumbai.[48] Filming wrapped on 24 April, coinciding Dhawan's birthday.[49]

Reception
Critical response
Aman Wadhwa of DNA India gave 3.5/5 stars and wrote "Baby John is the perfect masala entertainer that the Bollywood needed to round off a rather disappointing year".[57] Chirag Sehgal of News 18 gave 3/5 stars and wrote "While Baby John boasts commendable performances, it falls short of being a compelling thriller due to its lackluster plot and uneven pacing."[58] Anam Shaikh of Spottoday gave 3/5 stars and wrote "A Mass Entertainer with Heart and Action".[59]
Sana Farzeen of India Today gave 3/5 stars and wrote "Baby John could either benefit from the withdrawal symptoms fans are experiencing after Pushpa 2: The Rule or lose the battle to Allu Arjun's mass-actioner.[60] Lachmi Deb Roy of Firstpost gave 3/5 stars and wrote "Varun Dhawan has done a good job as an action hero, the show stellar is undoubtedly Jackie Shroff, but Wamiqa Gabbi is hugely underused in the film".[61] Rishil Jogani of Pinkvilla gave 2.5/5 stars and wrote "Baby John attempts to tackle a serious social issue but falls short due to its superficial treatment and over-reliance on overused narrative tropes. While the action sequences and background score are commendable, the film fails to provide a nuanced or innovative take on its subject matter."[62] Dhaval Roy of Times of India gave 2.5/5 stars and wrote "Varun Dhawan impresses, balancing a dual role as a caring father and a fearless cop. His performance adds depth and conviction to the otherwise predictable narrative.[...] The movie has its moments as an actioner, but in terms of content and narrative, it could have more impactful."[63]
Tanmayi Savadi of Times Now gave 2.5/5 stars and wrote "Baby John is a good attempt at fan service. But, offers nothing fresh and exciting. It is high time to redefine mass actioners that come from South filmmakers."[64] Kartik Bhardwaj of Cinema Express gave 2/5 stars and wrote "Baby John feels like a feverishly hurried version of Theri. It doesn’t let the characters marinate and is too eager to get to the conflict. The build-up is often half-baked, and the action, when it comes, is underwhelming."[65] Aishwarya Vasudevan of OTT Play gave 2/5 stars and wrote "Baby John tries to rock the cradle of Bollywood with South Indian masala but ends up crying over spilt milk."[66]
Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV gave 2/5 stars and wrote "Trouble is that Baby John falls way, way short of working action movie fans up into a celebratory frenzy."[67] Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express gave 1/5 stars and wrote "Baby John bids fair to claim the title of the worst film of 2024, a year when big, starry Bollywood tanked well and truly."[68] Rishabh Suri of Hindustan Times wrote "Overall, there’s nothing much that makes Baby John stand out apart from the action. It’s watchable if you can sit through the boring songs, and the atrocious first half hour."[69]
Bollywood Hungama gave 3.5/5 stars and wrote "Baby John is a mass entertainer which works due to the clapworthy moments, the message, Varun Dhawan’s energetic performance and the cameo by Salman Khan. At the box office, the film will benefit owing to the long holiday period and no competition until Republic Day."[70]
Box office
Baby John is estimated to have collected ₹11.25 to ₹13.5 crore nett on its opening day at the domestic box office.[71][72] As of 2 January 2025, the film has grossed ₹39.74 crore in India and ₹13.66 crore internationally, bringing its total worldwide gross to ₹53.4 crore.[6]
