27-year-old Hong Kong rider dead in controversial crash

On January 3, 2025, a 27-year-old Hong Kong motorcyclist was allegedly trying to escape from police in a high speed chase on motorbike.

On one of the streets in Kowloon Bay, an off-duty customs officer noticed the commotion and attempted to stop the 27-year-old rider, resulting in him losing control and crashing into
a roadside pole and tree.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

A memorial for the rider was held on January 8, 2025, marked by Taoist rituals and mourners bringing fresh flowers and offerings. The Hong Kong customs officer has been formally charged with vehicle tampering on January 8, 2025.
