Since its inaugural flight on April 7, 2001, it has conducted numerous missions, achieving a success rate of approximately 90%.

As of June 22, 2024, the Proton-M had completed 115 launches, with 11 failures or partial failures.

The Proton-M is primarily launched from sites 81/24 and 200/39 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Commercial launches are marketed by International Launch Services (ILS).

The vehicle is built by Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center.

The Proton-M has been instrumental in deploying various payloads, including communications satellites and interplanetary missions, contributing significantly to both Russian and international space endeavors.
