US President-elect Donald Trump has once again stirred controversy by suggesting Canada's merger with the US. Trump’s remarks came only hours after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation on Jan. 6.
Trudeau announced his resignation amid growing dissatisfaction within his party and a low public approval rating. "Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State,” the incoming US President said in a post on Truth Social. “The US can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned," Trump added.
Trump also argued that a US-Canada merger would eliminate trade barriers and reduce taxes for Canadians.
