NEIL YOUNG- Two Classics, Live Recorded The Corral Topanga Canyon 1967
THE LONER NEIL YOUNG 1967
He's a perfect stranger, like a cross of himself and a fox
He's a feeling arranger and a changer of the ways he talks
He's the unforeseen danger, the keeper of the key to the locks
Know when you see him
Nothing can free him
Step aside, open wide
It's the Loner
If you see him in the subway, he'll be down at the end of the car
Watching you move until he knows, he knows who you are
When you get off at your station alone, he'll know that you are
Know when you see him
Nothing can free him
Step aside, open wide
It's the Loner
There was a woman he knew about a year or so ago
She had somethin' that he needed and he pleaded with her not to go
On the day that she left he died, but it did not show
Know when you see him
Nothing can free him
Step aside, open wide
It's the Loner
CINNAMON GIRL
I wanna live with a cinnamon girl
I could be happy the rest of my life
With a cinnamon girl
A dreamer of pictures I run in the night
You see us together chasing the moonlight
My cinnamon girl
Ten silver saxes, a bass with a bow
The drummer relaxes, and waits between shows
For the cinnamon girl
A dreamer of pictures I run in the night
You see us together, chasing the moonlight
My cinnamon girl
Pa sent me money
Now I'm gonna make it somehow
I need another chance
You see, your baby loves to dance
Yeah, yeah, yeah

After the demise of Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young would buy his own Topanga home in 1968, a clifftop redwood on Skyline Drive. Despite his regular appearances at The Corral over the years, the reserved Young kept a fairly low profile in town. But that didn’t stop him from meeting his first wife Susan Acevedo at the Canyon Kitchen, a restaurant she ran in the Topanga shopping center, and marrying her at his house soon after. By the following year, Young was so closely associated with Topanga that Reprise Records included a promotional campaign for his second solo album Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere that included a free bag of “Topanga dirt” for every record sold.
My story. The girls that I played with in 1967-68 were "valley Girls" Hippy Chicks you could say. I was into Guitar playing *taught Folk guitar* to Encino rich kids, rode my horse and drove around my *British Green* MG midget with my Weimeraner dog. My first job was at the Wallich's music city Topanga Plaza location, in the Sheet Music Department and my first Guitar was a Gibson C-1 *black* nylon string. I had a life few could imagine. I got my horse with my first tax refund and stabled her in Chatsworth at an old race track. When I moved to Simi Valley I live at the Race Track in the West end across from the Drive-In theater and rode to Moorpark at night under the moon light no houses no interruptions pure freedom. There I worked for Adler Music.
So my direct experience with Neil was one evening in the Parking Lot where he liked to hang out between sets or just pass a joint or whatever.. my name was "candy" back then and I liked Cinnamon Pastels the little red crunchys and I had some in my pocket. That night he was looking for lyrics for a song as I remember and my candy treats became his attention and he asked me my name. Of course the first line of Cinnamon Girl goes like this "I wanna live with a cinnamon girl, I could be happy the rest of my life. With a cinnamon girl...
A dreamer of pictures I run in the night, You see us together chasing the moonlight, My cinnamon girl".
It was a full moon and he was having fun.. and said to me.. I could live with someone with Cinnamons in their pockets! I said I dream in pictures and ride in the night! And he asked did I have a horse? And I said yes and her name is moonlight! So that is my story...
Years later it was recalled in a set I played in Seattle.. and another girl came up to me.. she said I remember YOU! She was there.. and said so Neil wrote that song about you? It hit me.. so that is why.. life is very strange sometimes.
