Police officer shot near Waffle House after man fires at Jacksonville Beach patrol car

A police officer in northeastern Florida was shot at least twice outside of a Waffle House. The Jacksonville Beach Police Department tells WTLV-TV that one of their officers was shot Wednesday night. The officer was taken to a hospital. Police say a man walking on Beach Boulevard fired shots at an officers driving down the street. The man than ran away where he met two more officers. The suspect and one of the officers were shot during an exchange of gunfire.. Authorities haven't released the officer's name, but Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham says the officer is in good condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Latham visited the officer and his family in the hospital. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry tweeted late Wednesday that they were praying for the wounded officer. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will handle the investigation into the shooting.
