For all these years I thought this song was originally done by Johnny Cash, but now I discover that was only a cover. It was actually written by Australian Country singer Geoff Mack in 1959.

In 1962, the words were re-written with American and Canadian towns substituted and it became a #1 Country Hit by Hank Snow.It was a couple of years later before Johnny famously covered it.

When you listen to this original American version you will notice that the tempo is much faster than the one that Johnny did. In fact, Hank reels off these words so fast that an argument could be made that this is the first ever rap song!
