I just wrote this article about how we communicated back in the days before the net was opened to the public. We dialed up with Computers to download Echomail and Netmail from the Fidonet Network, operated and maintained by everyday folks like you and me. The net was out, and it was not going away. Most of our callers as we called them went to Yahoo, AOL which was just a large BBS, Then Facebook got the rest of them. I operated Doc's Place BBS for 32 years.
