Nikki Alberts joins The Cardi-Girls to share her bond with The Brumbies

In her own words:
I have been involved with horses since a young girl and worked with off the track thoroughbreds to retrain them to become showjumpers, eventers and good reliable pony club horses.

After a break from the country, my husband and I bought a property in Adaminaby NSW (20 minutes drive from the gates to Northern Kosciuszko National Park) and moved here with a thoroughbred and 4 clydies.

I had a high level involvement with brumby advocacy in 2016 but no deep knowledge. When I investigated their situation more, I was horrified at what was happening to them.

I don't buy in to the environmental arguments, what is important to me is the welfare of the brumby and getting the best 'out of the Park' outcome that we can.

I was approved as a rehomer in 2019 and have rehomed 76 brumbies in that time. I work hard at finding good adopters so that the horses have a good future and don't bounce through multiple hands. My White Alpine Equine facebook page gives some good history, photographs and videos of my journey with them.

Post the recent aerial culling, we believe there are no more that 750 horses left in Northern KNP, and a handful, if any, in Southern KNP.

I am the President of the Australian Brumby Alliance for 2025, and with them, have represented the brumbies at the Senate and MLC Inquiries - to no effect, and have lobbied the Government and the RSPCA to fund a group of brumby rehomers, trainers, welfare experts and therapist to work with the NPWS and basically remove the horse 'problem' from their remit. I received a polite 'sorry, no funding available' response. But they did manage to find $11.2 million for the RSPCA for the 2024 calendar year.......

My focus at present is helping with brumbies who are rebounding through the adoption system where they have been let down in various ways and need a safe space to rehabilitate while their new Sanctuary is being set up.https://cafelockedout.com/
