Local grade school students learn about TV production on MATC campus
Ever wondered what goes into a television production? Well, a number of grade school campers are getting a behind-the-scenes look, working to produce their very own commercial within a week on the campus of MATC. “I really like this one because I get to work behind the camera," 6th grade student, Anjai Yera said. But Yera isn’t the only one, He’s spending this week alongside a group of his peers and professionals, learning the ins and outs of TV and video production. “This would be a really good career to get into," Yera said. This free week-long summer camp for sixth through tenth graders is hosted by MATC. It’s funded by a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and features hands-on learning opportunities taught by MATC instructors like Glenn Riley who said a summer program like this can really change a young person's life. “It’s totally [about] giving back. I started in the same program," Riley said. "I was one of these kids like 14 and 15 years old and I came into this exact station. They turned on the lights in the studio, that was it," he continued. Two additional free camps are happening throughout the month: "Science Camp" will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Aug. 13-16. "Culinary Arts" will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday, Aug. 13-17. For more information or to receive a registration form, call (414) 297-6136, or write explore@matc.edu. Space is limited, so register today.
