Byron York: Alvin Bragg’s Case Was ‘the Weakest’ of All Cases Against Trump

MELUGIN: “To that point, he wants to give him this unconditional discharge like you said. He is convicted but no jail time, no probation? Really no punishment. So in your opinion, this is just to slap them with a title taking office and officially being a convicted felon is that the goal they wanted out of this in your opinion?”
YORK: “We cannot read their minds but that’s going to be the effect of it. You have to remember a lot of people thought this whole Alvin Bragg case was the weakest of all the cases that were being lodged against Trump a few years ago. Remember when he was getting indicted every other day. This was the weakest of the cases and they did not really want it to go to trial. They wanted Jack Smith’s big case about the 2020 election on January 6, they wanted that to go to trial first. All of those cases fell aside. Alvin Bragg’s case actually happened. But still, a lot of legal experts think it was way overdone. It was politically motivated and it should never have been brought. Even if Trump had not been elected president of the United States again, they still thought it was a case that had no legal merit. One thing that does happen after Merchan sentences Trump is that Trump begins to formally appeal the verdict which I don’t know how much time he is going to spend as president of the United States doing that. But certainly, it’s a verdict that needs to be appealed.”
