Posted • January 5, 2025: You know what they say — drunk words are sober thoughts. That much rang true for one driver just after midnight on New Year’s, when a man was pulled over in Southern California and accidentally gave an admission to an officer. The Murrieta Police Department shared a video that showed the interaction. At about 12:40 a.m. on Jan. 1, Officer Bridgewater pulled over a man who appeared to be swerving on the roadway. When he approached the vehicle, Bridgewater told the suspect immediately that he was being stopped for a DUI investigation. The suspect, whose face was covered in the video and was unidentified, told the officer he’d just dropped a friend before he made an accidental admission. “I was just dropping off my friend because I’m the DUI tonight,” the man told Bridgewater.

It took the man a minute to notice his mistake. “You’re the DUI tonight,” the officer asked to clarify. “Yes sir,” the man responded. Bridgewater then corrected the man, who meant to say he was the designated driver. He admitted to having a beer and some Champagne “a couple of hours ago.” The video then cuts to Bridgewater administering a field sobriety test to the man, who struggled to take any steps without stumbling. He was then arrested on suspicion of DUI.
