‘Well, only healthy people should serve in airborne brigades. But they enlisted people with bad eyesight, with scoliosis, who can't stand on their feet, their back hurts. Nobody cares, they enlist everyone,’ he said.

After two days under continuous fire at the position, where the command deployed him and his comrades, Roman surrendered.

‘We were hit by everything. Well, from Ukrainian side too. We didn't understand from where, it seemed that there should be a rear somewhere, but we were under fire from all sides. There were only two of us left, then our senior got an order. I didn't understand what kind of order it was,’ said Roman Khavalits.

The group's senior fled, leaving the POW alone. Then, Roman went the Russian positions. Russian servicemen urged him to drop his weapon and surrender.
