Do Baptists Really Pre-Date Catholicism and Protestantism?

This question keeps coming up.

Let’s start with this—Baptists are NOT Protestants. Protestantism began in the 1500s when Martin Luther and others protested the errors of the Roman Catholic Church. They were reforming a system they were part of. But Baptists? We were never part of that system.
