RUSH TRANSCRIPT:
BAIER: “Josh, it was messy at the beginning. They got it done. And now, they have to get done the Trump agenda which is going to be a challenge in some parts.”
KRAUSHAAR: “It was messy but it was an example of Donald Trump showing that he is willing to spend his political capital for Mike Johnson knowing that that relationship in the coming year is going to be crucial to get his legislative agenda passed. Trump didn’t just endorse Johnson but when you saw those three Republican holdouts, there was an additional six Republicans who decided not to vote initially on the first round of balloting, and Donald Trump got on the phone and actually reminded Ralph Norman the congressman we just saw that he endorsed Nikki Haley in the Republican primary and Norman got behind Trump pretty soon thereafter or got behind Johnson pretty soon thereafter as a result of Trump’s lobbying. It’s a reminder that a lot of these Freedom Caucus members, these Rebels, are actually in some of the most pro-Trump congressional districts. And Trump really did a very effective job getting them all on board and keeping the party unified.”
