A young doctor treats a mysterious man in the emergency room of the hospital where she works. Blood-streaming and also confused, he has emerged there, communicating in a language she does not understand. He tries to tell her something and bites her neck just before he dies. She embarks on a search for traces in the life of a man who was a recognized anthropologist during his lifetime, who has encountered the track of so-called "Eskimo spirits" in his scientific research. These have driven him to death and the young doctor is also about to lose her mind.
