The world was nearly blanketed by a strange fog that shut down flights, delayed trains, and caused massive accidents and traffic backups on roadways. On social media, many are calling this fog “Smart Dust,” suggesting it was engineered using nanotechnology as some sort of poisonous bioweapon. Others have dubbed it “Fogvid-24.”

Are people overreacting to a few viral videos, or is there more to this? Believe it or not, the CIA sprayed poison into fog in San Francisco in 1950 during an experiment called Operation Sea-Spray to study how a bioweapon might spread. Going back even further, in the 1930s, newspapers reported that over 80 people died in a mysterious poison fog that blanketed Belgium around Christmas time. Could these events be connected, or are they just strange coincidences?
