Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a lawsuit accusing it of using Siri to eavesdrop on users’ conversations without their consent.

The lawsuit, which dates back five years, alleges that Apple secretly activated Siri on iPhones and other devices, recording conversations even when users didn’t trigger it with the phrase “Hey, Siri.”

Some recordings were allegedly shared with advertisers.

Apple denies wrongdoing, but the settlement will compensate consumers who owned Siri-equipped devices from September 2014 to the end of 2024, with payments of up to $20 per device, CBS News has reported.
