Our Scripture reading for the New Year continues with today’s Scripture reading, Genesis 2-3. Returning to the sixth day of creation, we read, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground” (Genesis 2:7). God then declared all that He created good, with one exception: "It is not good that the man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18). Though He might have created Eve as He did Adam (“of the dust of the ground,” Genesis 2:7), God created woman from man’s rib (Genesis 2:21-22).
Genesis 3 records the temptation and the fall of Adam and the consequences of his sin for all humanity.
