Romanian appeals court upholds scrubbing presidential election

A Romanian appeals court on Tuesday upheld the Constitutional Court’s decision to annul the country’s November 24 presidential election, citing concerns over a Russian influence campaign that boosted far-right candidate Călin Georgescu.

Georgescu, a pro-Russia, anti-EU candidate, gained prominence through a TikTok campaign linked to Kremlin-run operations.

The court’s rejection of his challenge prompted Georgescu to accuse the system of corruption and injustice, Politico has reported.
