OP2412-27-6
Operations staff for Chernarus 4th Separate Light Mountain Rifle Brigade issued a warning order to 1st Battalion that strong separatist forces had taken over the village of Pogorevka in Chernarus only 12 hours before.

A task force was hastily assembled consisting of four light rifle squads and two BRDM scout cars, all of which were ordered forward to the village.

Among the tasks assigned to the task force, including locating and eliminating the two civilian criminal, command operatives, was a dead drop of stolen separatist military operational documents, which were stashed in a building in the village.

The tactical plan for the attack was to split the forces in two, because enemy artillery would deny through the use of artillery a direct assault from the south. 2nd Squad and 3rd Squad were ordered to maneuver round to the east while 4th Squad and Command Squad maneuvered around to the West, in order to avoid enemy artillery impact zones.

While 2nd Squad and 3rd Squad were maneuvering, 4th Squad was ordered forward to the southern edge of a woods less than 400 m from the objective, where they were engaged by an enemy heavy machine gun technical, Wagner Group operators, and by special forces operators, all of which delivered devastating fire on 4th Squad, pinning them down.

Command Squad led by the commander attempted to spring 4th Squad loose but they themselves became pinned down by the heavy enemy fire. Commander was killed in this action.

The task force second in command regrouped his forces, then discovered 4th Squad had been wiped out by an enemy counterattack. Before this, the new acting commander ordered one of the BRDM Scout cars forward, then both scout cars forward to stop the enemy counterattack. Ultimately the enemy counterattack was stopped.

After regrouping, Command Squad with 2nd Squad and 3rd Squad, advanced into town facing relatively light forces. Commander, in his attempt to eliminate both civilian criminal command operatives, was himself eliminated.

It was at this point that battalion command staff ordered the entire task force to retreat from town and to await reinforcements for a second operation some distance to the west. While waiting for those reinforcements, the new acting commander found that the only reinforcements available were two T-34 tanks. There was no infantry and no artillery for the new operation.

Command Squad, 2nd Squad, and 3rd Squad were ordered to re-enter and to hold a position just south of the main East-West Road, as Command Squad advanced on the location where friendly agents said they had left a dead drop of military operational documents. Unfortunately, the documents were not found, so by that time enemy counterattacks from the north, northeast, and northwest were pushing into town. Those forces included heavy technicals.

Retreating the task force from town commander discovered insufficient forces for the second operation, and he ordered the task force to retreat back to base.

Losses were very heavy. 4th Squad with wiped out, 2nd Squad lost four, 3rd Squad lost one, and Command Squad lost six. Both reinforcing T-34 tanks were destroyed, as were both BRDM Scout cars.

Field counts of enemy losses included two technicals.

Separatist forces, despite having won their victory, were forced to retreat back to the north, leaving Pogorevka and it's environs cleared of separatist forces. Operations staff for 4th Brigade are planning a subsequent operation in or around Pogorevka.
