The F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft developed by Grumman for the U.S. Navy. It was introduced in 1974 and became iconic for its roles in air superiority, fleet defense, and ground-attack missions. The F-14 features advanced avionics, a powerful AN/AWG-9 radar, and the capability to carry AIM-54 Phoenix long-range missiles, making it a highly effective interceptor. Its variable-sweep wings allow for enhanced maneuverability and speed, with a maximum speed of Mach 2.34. The aircraft gained widespread recognition through its appearance in the 1986 film Top Gun. It was retired by the U.S. Navy in 2006 but remains in service with the Iranian Air Force.
