How stupid is the treasury and how stupid is the government?

The treasury was recently hacked by way of the IT vendor that managed its day to day operations. In the cyber security/hacking business you will have someone who is smarter than you who probably didn't go to school who can run circles around you and gain access to your systems. But the office of federal procurement policy which manages and gives out these contracts doesn't really look at the bigger picture.

If I was joe shmoe government, I would want that handled in house. I wouldn't want an outside vendor maintaining my stuff due to risks. But the elected who are part of the office of federal procurement more than likely have indirect investments in these contracts and cash in every single time a contract is awarded.

Will it change? Probably not.

Other countries handle it in house and don't rely on third party vendors, why can't we?
