The observable universe is about 93 billion light-years in diameter.
The most distant galaxies we can see are over 13 billion light-years away.
A single light-year is about 5.88 trillion miles (9.46 trillion kilometers).
So, just think about this: the light we’re seeing from distant galaxies now started its journey over 13 billion years ago. When we look at the night sky, we’re essentially peering into the distant past—some stars and galaxies could have already disappeared or changed beyond recognition by the time their light reaches us.
