Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon" is centered around a plot where Sherlock Holmes (played by Basil Rathbone) and Dr. Watson (played by Nigel Bruce) protect a Swiss scientist, Dr. Franz Tobel, who has invented an advanced bomb sight. This invention is crucial for the British war effort during World War II. However, their nemesis, Professor Moriarty (played by Lionel Atwill), who is working for the Nazis, kidnaps Tobel to steal the bomb sight and sell it to Nazi Germany. Holmes must decipher a secret code to locate Tobel and secure the bomb sight, engaging in a battle of wits with Moriarty to prevent the technology from falling into enemy hands.
The film is credited as an adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 1903 short story "The Adventure of the Dancing Men," although it largely deviates from the original story, keeping only the element of the dancing men code.
