Norma, an aging silent film star, cannot accept the reality that her stardom has waned since the advent of "the talkies." Joe, a screenwriter, accidentally comes to her house, where she ends up hiring him to polish up her script for her big talking movie debut and comeback. The reality that comes with age and change is not something that Norma accepts, edging her closer and closer to madness.
