What Is God's Daily Timetable?

Most of us would consider that our day starts when we wake up in the morning, but that would be incorrect if we live by God’s daily timetable. His day starts in the evening as we read in Genesis 1:5,

"God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day."

Since God created each day to begin with the evening, we actually start each day with rest...as we wind down and go to sleep for the night. But God is just getting started with the day. While we rest, God is at work. He is at work for his glory and for our good.

What a beautiful design by God! Every evening, He reminds us that we can rest in His care, under the shelter of His wings. We read in Psalms 121:4-5,

"He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand."

We can begin our day with rest because God is at work and has everything in His control. We read in Proverbs 3:5-6,

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight”

We can begin our day with rest because God has good plans for us. We read in Jeremiah 29:11,

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

We can begin our day with rest because God is already there in the morning when we rise.

We read in Lamentations 3:24-25,

"Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” The Lord is good to those who depend on him..."

So let us live by God's timetable and begin our day with confident rest as we wind down and go to sleep...because our God neither slumbers nor sleeps. He has good plans for us. He is busy at work through the night hours so we can start our day with a truly restful sleep.
