Nikola Tesla was born in Serbia in the Austrian Empire around midnight, between July 9th and 10th of 1856 during a fierce lightning storm. According to family legend midway through the birth the midwife wrung her hands and declared the lighting a bad omen. “This child will be a child of darkness,” she said. To which his mother replied “No he will be a child of light”
Much of his work and books reside in the Nikola Tesla museum in Belgrade, however, none of his more extraordinary papers are housed there.
