0:01 On the 20th of December a man drove an SUV into the crowd at the Magdeburg Christmas market, killing five and injuring over 200, 40 of them seriously.
The perpetrator was a 50 year-old Saudi man, Taleb Al-Abdulmohsen, who had been granted asylum in Germany in 2016.
Al-Abdulmohsen was an ex-Muslim who was involved in helping other ex-Muslims and Saudis seeking asylum from the Saudi government.
He was not an Islamist, he supported the AfD and shared social media content expressing concern about the Islamisation of Europe, along with pro-Israel content and content from Elon Musk.
His grievance towards Germany appears to have been due to its government's treatment (in his view persecution) of Saudi refugees.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faes has said "he acted like an Islamist terrorist although ideologically he was clearly an enemy of Islam”.

Weidel gave this speech in the city three days later (23rd December)
0:02 The man introducing Dr Weidel is Martin Reichardt, the leader of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt (the eastern German state in which Magedburg is located).
1:20 an Islamist = this appears not to have been the case (see note at 0:01 above)
7:18 Islam is not a part of Germany = this common phrase (Islam gehört nicht zu Deutschland) is often incorrectly translated into English as "Islam does not belong to Germany" (this is wrong because the German phrase is not talking about ownership) or "Islam does not belong in Germany" (this is wrong because its tone is stronger than the German phrase, and also because German has a different phrase for "belong in" ("gehört in")).
"gehört zu" is a phrase you might use when talking about people playing football (he's not part of that team) or when tidying up toys (it doesn't belong in that box, put it over there).
The man in the crowd is saying Islam is not historically part of German society and culture.
8:30 suspected terrorists from abroad = to clarify, Weidel is talking about foreigners in Germany already suspected of being terrorists (she uses a specific legal term "Gefährder")
8:36 spying on government critics = there has been an increase in surveillance of people on the right (including the AfD) since Thomas Haldenwang became head of the BfV (domestic intelligence agency) in 2018.
9:23 not one of us = Weidel uses the same phrasing as the man who shouted "Islam is not a part of Germany" (gehört nicht zu, see note at 7:18). You could also translate this as "they are not part of us".
9:39 Those who don't love Germany, are to leave Germany = like "Islam is not a part a Germany" this is another common phrase (Wer Deutschland nicht liebt, soll Deutschland verlassen) that is often mistranslated.
The problem is the word "soll" which is notoriously difficult to translate from German to English.
Soll is stronger than "should", but is not as strong as "must", or a strong as an imperative / order. It also does not mean "shall".
So a good translation is somewhere between "Those who don't love Germany, should leave Germany" and "Those who don't love Germany, must leave Germany" / "If you don't love Germany, leave"
I know "Those who don't love Germany, are to leave Germany" sounds clunky but I think this is the best option.
I believe it is important to try to capture the exact tone and meaning, considering the controversial and potentially inflammatory nature of this phrase.
