88-YEAR-OLD SUPER FOSTER MOM

Foster mothers are the unsung heroes who open their hearts and homes to children in need, offering love, stability and a sense of belonging during the most vulnerable times.

Emma Patterson dedicated four decades of her life since the ‘80s to raising over 40 foster kids. She is one of the longest-serving foster parents in Montgomery County, in the US state of Maryland. Her love, dedication and unwavering support created a nurturing environment where the children thrived.

In June this year, at 88 years old, Patterson announced she was retiring, and her County, as well as the children she fostered, came out to honour her. She’s the true embodiment of compassion, showing that family is not just defined by blood, but by the love and care we give each other.
