Thomas Noronha, a Portuguese historian and expert in cryptanalysis, arrives in Cairo for a conference and to discuss acquiring an Egyptian antiquity for the Gulbenkian Museum. While navigating the chaotic city streets, he encounters Ariana Pakravan, a captivating Iranian woman who works for the Iranian Ministry of Science. Despite her beauty and charm, Ariana is on a serious mission. She invites Thomas to lunch, where she reveals her true intentions: her government wants to hire him to decipher an unpublished and encrypted manuscript allegedly written by Albert Einstein.
The manuscript, titled Die Gottesformel (The God Formula), contains a section that is written in an unknown cipher, and the Iranians believe it was originally composed in Portuguese. This is where Thomas’s expertise comes into play. Tempted by the substantial financial offer, Thomas agrees to take on the task, though he’s initially wary of the secrecy and the implications of such a project.
The manuscript’s mysterious contents, its connection to Einstein, and the potential significance of “The God Formula” spark Thomas’s curiosity and lead him on a journey that promises to be as dangerous as it is intellectually challenging.
