War in Ukraine & Ben Roberts-Smith - With Alistair Pope – X-Candidates 66

Former Lieutenant Colonel Alistair Pope is back on the show to discuss the recent defamation case in the Federal Court between Ben Roberts-Smith and Nine Entertainment Co. newspapers.

The recent verdict handed down by Justice Anthony Besanko has been said to vindicate news articles which published allegations that Mr. Robert-Smith committed war crimes.

Alistair gives us his take on the matter, drawing upon his former military experience and his extensive knowledge of military history which sees him published widely here in Australia, but also around the world.

Later, the conversation shifts to the War in Ukraine, where Alistair discusses the strategies and weapons systems that are succeeding in the theatre, before analysing the recent AUKUS deal, which will see Australia purchase and then later build nuclear submarines.

Alistair Pope, served in Vietnam, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Since leaving the military, he has published over 300 articles in a variety of publications including Quadrant, Strategy & Tactics, World at War, Camaraderie and military history magazines in the United States. He is also an accomplished Chess player, with his own published books on the game.
