New Video Group 2002

Shot by an independent filmmaker, this documents the first 24 hours at "ground zero" in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. It begins with the fall of the twin towers, travels through the smoldering site showing people on the site working in a fervor, then dazed and trance-like. The images speak for themselves intentionally devoid of commentary and music.

This impressionistic documentary was compiled from footage shot in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attacks on New York City's World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Dispensing with narration or a musical score, WTC: The First 24 Hours offers a bystander's view as the twin towers crumple and collapse, and the ashen devastation that brought Lower Manhattan -- one of the busiest areas in the world -- to a virtual standstill. An official entry at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, this video features two versions of WTC: the original 11-minute edition and a later expanded cut running about a half-hour. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
