Grizzly bears in Texas

Grizzly bears are not native to Texas and are not found in the state today. Historically, grizzly bears (Ursus arctos horribilis) had a range that extended into parts of the American Southwest, including far West Texas. However, their presence in Texas was limited to remote mountainous regions like the Trans-Pecos area.
