Christmas Day pursuit in Fond du Lac leads to crash, search on foot and man's arrest

A Christmas Day pursuit in the city led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man wanted on a felony probation warrant and a warrant for repeated domestic violence offenses.

The incident began around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when authorities received a report the suspect had physically abused a female, threatened her life and taken her handgun.

Fond du Lac police said in a news release the suspect is a convicted violent felon and had previously been known to carry weapons.

At around 11:30 a.m., an officer located the suspect’s vehicle, which was being driven on Washington Street near West Scott Street. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it fled at a high speed toward the victim’s residence.

The vehicle pursuit lasted less than 1 minute as the suspect crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of East Arndt Street and North Park Avenue.

Three people suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect was not injured and fled on foot, prompting police to establish a perimeter.

The suspect was then located in the backyard of a residence in the 200 block of East Follett Street. Police said he had stopped running but continued to resist arrest and officers had to forcibly take him into custody. The suspect’s name was not immediately released.

A handgun was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle, according to police, and the suspect was taken to Fond du Lac County Jail and faces multiple criminal charges in addition to the warrants already issued for his arrest.

No officers were injured during the incident and no further details were immediately released.
